Raising Dion premiered as an original series on Netflix in 2019. It is based on the 2015 comic book and short film of the same name, and follows a woman named Nicole Warren (played by Alisha Wainwright) who is raising her son, Dion, by herself after her husband’s death. She soon learns that Dion possesses superpowers and struggles to keep it a secret.

Raising Dion ran for two seasons on the streaming platform before Netflix announced its cancellation earlier this year. nonetheless remains a beloved show with a beloved cast. Though the actors will be missed, here are seven interesting facts you might not have known about them.

Jason Ritter stars as Pat Rollins, an engineer at a biotech company called BIONA, Mark’s best friend and Dion’s godfather. He is a well-established actor who is already extremely connected in Hollywood, coming from a family of actors. He is classically trained, and attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts before going on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Michael B. Jordan is one of the more established actors in the cast of Raising Dion, and he plays Mark Warren, a scientist and Nicole’s deceased husband, who secretly was given superpowers by the aurora event in Iceland and is trapped as a spirit after having been absorbed by the Crooked Man. He shares a lot of name similarities with the famous basketball player, but the ‘B’ in his name actually stands for Bakari, which means “promising” in Swahili.

Alisha Wainwright plays the main role as Nicole Warren, a widowed mother who is raising her son. Many may know her from her role on Shadowhunters, however, she revealed that it wasn’t until after she got the part that she realized the TV show was based on a YA novel and that she needed to do some more research.

Ritters famous connections actually extend to established actress Amy Yasbeck. Yasbeck is an actress who is best known for her role on the sitcom, Wings, from 1994 to 1997. She also appeared as a mermaid in the TV film, Splash, Too, a spinoff from the original, Splash. Yasbek is actually Ritter’s godmother, and is one of many famous connections Ritter has through his family.
