Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh said Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings didn’t see the best deals in the IPL 2022 auction.

Both the teams share nine out of 14 IPL titles between them but they are on the opposite end of the points table in IPL 2022.

MI recorded eight straight losses before registering victories in their last two fixtures against Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans.

On the other hand, CSK had a similar endurance but they recorded one win more than their arch-rivals. Both the heavyweights of IPL are languishing at the bottom of the points table in IPL 2022.

They didn’t get too many good players: Harbhajan Singh on MI and CSK

It won’t be wrong to say that the chances of both teams making it through the IPL 2022 playoffs are all but over. Harbhajan said both MI and CSK didn’t have great auctions and missed quality players in their rank this season.

“Auction didn’t go well for these two teams. They didn’t get too many good players. They have some quality in their teams but the two new teams, Gujarat and Lucknow, have made very strong teams. All the other teams are also looking very strong,” Harbhajan told reporters on the sidelines of a Dream Set Go event.

“This is probably the first time we are seeing MI or CSK have made teams in which they don’t have bowlers who can defend 150-odd runs barring Jasprit Bumrah, maybe Ravindra Jadeja from CSK. It is one of those tournaments that has given other teams also a chance. This is a great opportunity for these other teams to showcase what they are about. These teams will come back to that point where they will be challenging,” he added.

CSK suffered a heavy blow after pace bowler Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury while Mumbai bought England speedster Jofra Archer in the auction despite knowing the player’s unavailability because of injuries.

MI also lost the services of Tymal Mills who was also ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Mills picked six wickets in five games at an economy rate of 3/35.
