Things didn’t go well between the franchise and the player last season. In the middle of IPL 2021, Warner was sacked as an SRH skipper and warmed the bench during the final league match.

His release from SRH was inevitable after how things folded up in UAE. Warner returned back to the Delhi franchise in IPL 2022.

In six matches so far in IPL 2022, the southpaw has amassed 261 runs at 41.99 and a strike rate of 140.71.

Warner has formed a lethal combination with Prithvi Shaw in the opening slot. In the match against Punjab Kings, the duo put up 83 runs in 39 balls while chasing 116.

During his first three years of IPL, David Warner would just look to hit every ball: Virender Sehwag

Sehwag went down memory lane to recollect his advice to a young Warner at Delhi Daredevils.

When David Warner was first a part of the Delhi team, I had told him that not just in T20s, but he could also be an impactful player in Test cricket,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

“He laughed at it and thought that I was joking. I told him that in T20s there is a powerplay of six overs, but in Test matches, maybe you can also get such field placements throughout the day. During his first three years, he would just look to hit every ball.

“But then, as he played international cricket, he started playing according to the situation and came up with match-winning performances. He deserves credit for SRH’s title victory,” he added.

Delhi Capitals outplayed Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday as Warner scored a brisk 26-ball 42 to help Capitals win by four wickets with an over to spare.
