Rishabh Pant‘s Delhi Capitals were knocked out of IPL 2022 as they lost to Mumbai Indians by five wickets. Mumbai chased 160 required to win with five deliveries remaining. However, the bigger area of focus was Pant not taking the DRS on David after he edged the ball early on in his innings.

The wicket of Dewald Brevis in the 15th over brought out Tim David into the crease. After the time out, he edged the ball from Shardul Thakur with Pant appealing for a catch. The on-field umpire gave it not out after which they decided against going for a review. However, the replays showed that the ball took the faintest of edges from Tim David’s bat as it went into Pant’s hands. As it turned out, David scored 34 from 11 balls to swing the game Mumbai’s way.

Speaking to Star  Sports Ravi Shastri said that Delhi lacked the common sense of taking the review against such a big-hitter like David. He further said that Delhi had both their reviews remaining with five overs remaining and not taking the review was a no-brainer.

“Ok there’s Rishabh Pant, Shardul but what are the other 8 doing there? Common sense demands five overs left, two reviews, Tim David has come in, you’ve taken a wicket and you have a great opportunity of getting two wickets quickly and still 5 overs to go and you having the upper hand – you had to take it. I mean, it’s a no-brainer,” Shastri said to Star Sports.

He further said the loss will be a tough pill to swallow as it knocked Delhi Capitals out of the tournament. The side won seven and lost seven to make their way out of the season in IPL 2022.

“This is a tough pill to swallow, it’s like a balloon burst after that. Someone has pricked that balloon to burst and to roll over. They’re gonna have sleepless nights over this one, such are these games because it’s a place for the playoffs that you have missed out on after two months of cricket going at each other and then miss out by just one lapse in concentration,” Shastri added.

Delhi’s loss meant that RCB became the fourth team to go to the playoffs. They will be taking on LSG in the Eliminator in Kolkata on May 25.
