It’s a tough time for DC fans right now, as we all wait and see which big and small screen projects will survive the ongoing restructuring of the DC Cinematic Universe. According to a report by Variety, the likes of Doom Patrol and Titans could be next to face the firing line, with the outlet stating that it is “still to be determined” whether the two shows will be renewed for new seasons.

The report does go on to say that both shows are scheduled to premiere their latest seasons later this year, with Doom Patrol and Titans streaming on HBO Max, but considering what has been happening behind the scenes at Warner Bros. Pictures with their handling of the DC franchise, fans would be forgiven for feeling a little nervous. Especially when the report previously stated that both Titans

and Doom Patrol were “said to be on the chopping block” before updating with softer language.

So, while both shows were previously renewed during DC FanDome, we will simply have to wait and see whether the likes of Doom Patrol and Titans still factor into Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s newly revealed ten-year plan for the world of DC.

Both Doom Patrol and Titans introduce DC superhero teams, but that’s where their similarities end. Doom Patrol follows a gang of lesser-known super-powered outcasts, including Diane Guerrero as Jane, the dominant identity of a traumatized woman with dissociative identity disorder; April Bowlby as Rita Farr, who struggles to prevent her body from turning to a gelatinous state; Matt Bomer as Larry Trainor, who has an entity of negative energy living inside of him; and Brendan Fraser as Cliff Steele, a former NASCAR driver whose brain was placed in a robot body following a car crash.

Led by Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder AKA The Chief, the team is later joined by Justice League member Vic Stone AKA Cyborg, a cybernetically enhanced superhero. Embarking on all manner of zany adventures, including running into a sentient, genderqueer, teleporting street named Danny, as well as exploring their innermost turmoil, Doom Patrol has been met with critical acclaim and stands at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. With the third season taking things in a typically surprising direction, fans of the series will certainly be left downhearted should the show face the ax. Especially when the show was seemingly renewed…

Titans meanwhile follows a set of more familiar, far grittier superheroes, including Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson AKA Robin, Anna Diop as Kory Anders AKA Starfire, Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth AKA Raven, and Ryan Potter as Gar Logan AKA Beast Boy, among others. While not quite as well received as Doom Patrol, Titans has still garnered a dedicated fanbase, one that would be equally disappointed to see the show come to a premature end.

Currently, we do not know whether Doom Patrol and Titans will be given the chance to continue or not. But, thanks to shock cancelations amid a recent shake-up at Warner Bros., it is certainly a nerve-wracking time for DC fans.
