Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg has praised Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s finishing capabilities, claiming no goal is too large for the iconic wicketkeeper-batter as he trusts in himself.

On April 21, Dhoni’s scorching 13-ball unbeaten 28 enabled CSK to win a last-ball thriller against the five-time winners, striking 16 runs off the final four deliveries to help Chennai win their second game in the IPL 2022.

Dwaine Pretorius (22 off 14) and Dhoni (28 not out off 13) scored crucial runs to keep CSK in contention until the final over. In the penultimate over, CSK required 17 runs, and Pretorius was caught leg-before by Jaydev Unadkat off the first ball.

Dwayne Bravo was the next batter to bat, and he got a single in the second ball of the over, with 16 runs needed. Unadkat went full and wide and ended up delivering a ball in the slot, which Dhoni smacked for a straight six on the third ball.

On the next delivery, the left-arm pacer picked up the pace and went short, but Dhoni anticipated this and camped back, pulling it to the square leg barrier, reducing the chase to 6 off 2 balls.

In the fifth ball, the legendary batsman scored two more, bringing the equation to 4 off 1, which Dhoni completed with a whip of the wrists on a low full toss that beat the short fine leg fielder to the fence and secured a memorable three-wicket triumph for CSK.

It’s between him and the bowler in the final over: Brad Hogg

“MS Dhoni is looking for that certain moment.” He needs it because he has faith in himself. There is no such thing as an impossible goal. He still feels he can get his side over the finish line, whether it’s 15 or 30 runs and over.

“He already understands that the bowler believes he is good at this role on the back end and that he can win in any situation,” Brad Hogg remarked on his YouTube channel.

Brad Hogg Said, “Dhoni’s scoring rate in the 18th and 19th overs isn’t very high,” Hogg added. He’s simply moving the ball about to ensure that he has command of the run pace.

“In the final over, it’s just him and the bowler, and he tries to attack the bowler in the first couple of balls. Once he achieves that, his reputation takes precedence over the bowler’s thoughts.” Brad Hogg Added.

Dhoni is the only player in IPL history to have chased down 15 or more runs in the last over three times, twice against Punjab Kings in 2010 and once against Mumbai Indians in 2022.
