Former South African captain Shaun Pollock believes Yuzvendra Chahal, in comparison to Rahul Chahar, has a decent chance of being selected for India’s T20 World Cup team in 2022, based on his solid performances in the forthcoming IPL 2022.

Rahul Chahar pushed out Yuzvendra Chahal for a position in India’s T20 World Cup squad after a successful first half of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Chahal’s performance had plummeted, and the leggie was pulled from the Indian team even until he could demonstrate his value in the UAE leg of the tournament. Is the battle this year stacked in favor of the Rajasthan Royals bowler? Shaun Pollock, a former captain of South Africa, weighs in on the subject.

Chahal has taken 19 wickets in 10 games in the league, the most by any bowler, at 15.32 and a strike rate of 12.6. A hat-trick and a five-wicket haul round out the tally. Chahar, who presently plays for Punjab Kings, took 12 wickets in ten games with a strike rate of 17.5 and an average of 22.08.

Comparing the two and complimenting an enhanced Chahal, Pollock identified the Rajasthan Royals spinner as a ‘strong favorite’ for the World Cup, which will be held in Australia later this year in October.

Chahal took 3 for 28 against Punjab Kings on Saturday, becoming only the second bowler in IPL history to take 20 wickets 4 times, behind Lasith Malinga, who is now the bowling coach of Rajasthan Royals.

While arguing for Chahal’s selection in the forthcoming T20 World Cup, Shaun Pollock acknowledged India’s choice not to choose him for the ICC event in the UAE last year.

Shaun Pollock stated,  “When it came to the last World Cup, Chahal was nowhere near his best. He seemed out of sorts, and his deliveries were flat. He was hesitant to let it out. His mojo was gone. As individuals, this occurs.”

The leg-spinner is the current Purple Cap holder, having taken 22 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 14.50 and an economy rate of 7.25 for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2022.
