Aakash Chopra criticised the Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) batting lineup during their defeat to the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2022 match on Wednesday (May 11).

Due to the absence of Shimron Hetmyer, the Royals chose Ravichandran Ashwin at No. 3 and dropped their captain Sanju Samson to No. 5. Despite the veteran off-half-century, the spinner’s the Royals were only able to set a marginally below-par 161-run mark, which the Capitals quickly took down.

Aakash Chopra criticised the Rajasthan Royals batting lineup while assessing the RR-DC match. He said:

“Rajasthan needed to make a change, and the change was exactly what we discussed, bringing in Rassie van der Dussen, which they accomplished. However, I had no idea what the batting order was since who likes that?”

Chopra continued: “Chetan Sakariya got Jos Buttler out of the game. The surface aided him, since there was something in it for the faster bowlers, and he took full advantage of it. Yashasvi Jaiswal tried and fought after that, but she only managed 19 runs from 19 balls. Mitchell Marsh was finally able to put a stop to his problems.”

Aakash Chopra on R Ashwin’s innings:

R Ashwin failed to retain the enthusiasm after the powerplay overs, according to Aakash Chopra. He remarked:

“Ravichandran Ashwin came in as a pinch-hitter, played in the powerplay as a pinch-hitter, and then became a pinch-anchor even though he was attempting to play extremely slowly after that, possibly because the pitch was sticky and the ball was not getting onto the bat. He simply accelerated at the appropriate time, which was a good knock.”

With eight wickets and 11 balls to spare, the Delhi Capitals chased down the 161-run mark. The Rajasthan Royals, who are currently in third position in the IPL 2022 points table with 14 points, may need to win both of their remaining games to secure a playoff spot.
