Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel said nobody will be able to replicate MS Dhoni’s success with Chennai Super Kings.

Ahead of IPL 2022, Dhoni-led CSK in 213 matches in 12 seasons and the franchise won four IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018 & 2021) and two Champions League T20 trophies (2010 and 2014).

MS Dhoni reinstated in CSK’s captain’s role after Ravindra Jadeja’s difficulties

In a sudden move, Dhoni decided to hand over the captaincy reins to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja just a couple of days before the start of the IPL 2022.

The decision backfired for both the franchise and the new captain as CSK lost six of their eight matches.

Jadeja scored 116 runs in 10 innings at 19.33 and returned five wickets with the ball at an economy rate of 7.52.

The queer thing was the star all-rounder dropped a few catches in the tournament given the impression of his acrobatic fielding skills.

After feeling the pressure, Jadeja gave back the captaincy duties to Dhoni ahead of their clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Don’t think anyone would be able to replicate what MS Dhoni has done: Parthiv Patel

Parthiv, who played 26 IPL matches for CSK, said people expected Jadeja to fill Dhoni’s shoes and carry his legacy forward. The former Indian player said no player should be compared with someone like the stature of Dhoni.

What Dhoni has done, I don’t think anyone would be able to replicate it. There should be no comparisons with anyone. This is what happened with Jadeja during his captaincy stint and was one of the biggest reasons (why he was under greater pressure). People were looking for Dhoni in Jadeja. Whoever comes in next as the captain, this mistake should not be repeated,” Parthiv told Cricbuzz.

“As an expert or as a CSK team member, it should be clear for everyone – Dhoni is Dhoni. No one can be like him. They will have to let that go. For Chennai, yes it would be a bigger challenge (when MSD is gone). Dhoni’s strength has always been spontaneous decisions that he takes on the ground. That wasn’t happening this time (during Jadeja’s stint). The role of the support staff will become very important in how they rebuild the team,” he added.

CSK has now lost nine of 13 matches after the seven-wicket defeat to Gujarat Titans on Sunday (May 15) at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.

MS Dhoni and his men are already out of contention for the IPL 2022 playoffs race along with rivals Mumbai Indians.

CSK will play their final and inconsequential game of the IPL 2022 against Rajasthan Royals on May 20 at the Brabourne Stadium.
