Shikhar Dhawan, India’s ODI opener, believes he does have a lot to offer in the T20 tournament as he plans to perform at the top level for at minimum the next three years.

With one match remaining in the IPL, the 36-year-old Delhi batsman has continued his strong form, amassing 421 runs for Punjab Kings. The elegant opener hasn’t scored less than 300 runs in the tournament since 2015, demonstrating his dependability.

Despite scoring runs and leading India on a tour to Sri Lanka last year, Dhawan was left out of the final T20 World Cup selection.

The battle for a berth in the Indian team is heating up, but Dhawan is likely to return to T20 cricket with the home series against South Africa starting on June 9.

He believes his experiences will help him in the T20 format.

“Although I am still an important member of the team, I believe that my expertise allows me to engage in the shortest possible time.” In the T20 format, I’ve been doing fairly well. I’ve performed admirably in every role that has been assigned to me.”

“I’ve continued to stay solid in the games that I’m playing, whether it’s the IPL or domestic cricket, and I’m having fun with it.” In an exclusive interview with PTI, Dhawan said, “Consistency is not only about hitting fifties or hundreds regularly, but also about keeping even gaps between such runs.”

‘Leading the team last year was a dream come true for me’: Shikhar Dhawan

Dhawan was left out of the World Cup just a few months after leading India to victory in Sri Lanka. He was disappointed, but his positive view of life enabled him to go on.

“I am, indeed, an optimistic person. Last year, leading the team was a dream come true for me. They thought the (selected) guys were better than me for the T20 World Cup, which was fair enough.”

“I respect whatever decision pickers make.” That’s how life works. You accept it and go about your business. “I just concentrate on what I can manage and attempt to maximize the possibilities that come my way,” he stated.

Since his debut in 2010, Shikhar Dhawan has played 34 Tests, 149 ODIs, and 68 T20s for India.
