Rohit Sharma Given Out Controversial Decision

Mumbai Indians batsman Rohit Sharma was rightly adjudged out by the third umpire during their IPL 2022 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday, according to Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla.

When the third umpire ruled him out, the MI captain was stunned. Many claimed Sharma’s dismissal was due to a technical fault with the UltraEdge, as well as some poor umpiring.

I Think There Was A Clear Spike: Piyush Chawla

UltraEdge has spikes on it even before the ball passed the bat. However, in an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Piyush Chawla revealed why he believed there was enough evidence to send the MI captain back, saying:

“No, I don’t think so (on whether Rohit Sharma was wrongly given out). As they say that a third umpire needs evidence to make a decision, there was a clear spike.”

Chawla was impressed with how Bumrah bowled. Despite losing by 52 runs against KKR, Jasprit Bumrah was named Player of the Match for his best IPL figures of 5/10. The 28-year-old proved unplayable at the death, conceding only five runs in his final three overs while picking up five wickets.

Bumrah had a poor start to the campaign, taking only five wickets in the first ten games. Piyush Chawla, on the other hand, believes that despite not taking any wickets, the paceman bowled brilliantly.

“The sharpness was there even at the beginning (in Bumrah’s bowling) but just that he didn’t have that many wickets to his name. But the way he bowled today was at a completely different level,” Chawla said on Bumrah’s bowling.

Ishan Kishan was the lone bright spot in MI’s batting against KKR, scoring a valiant half-century. The 23-year-old, though, was not as fluent as he is when he is in top form.

Piyush Chawla commented on this: “It’s not that he is losing his X-factor. But when you aren’t in good form, you tend to take a bit of time and even your strengths don’t go your way. So you can’t say that he is losing his X-factor, but he isn’t in good form.”

With their batting struggling yet again, MI could certainly make some changes and give youngsters like Dewald Brevis and new recruit Tristan Stubbs a chance.
