Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody has finally opened up on why the management has persisted with Kane Williamson at the top of the order. Williamson has had a wretched form this season scoring just over 200 runs at an average of 18.91. After scoring a duck against RCB, Williamson was dismissed after scoring just nine from 17 balls.

Meanwhile, there has been a theory about SRH not sending Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram as openers amid the constant troubles of Williamson. The Kiwi skipper has failed to get going this season adding to his team’s miserable run and also eating up an overseas slot in the XI. Moody, was very vocal about the team management not willing to tinker with the batting order that is working for them.

“Rahul Tripathi has batted exceptionally well at No. 3 and Markram has been one of the leading batters in the tournament at No. 4. So, we felt why change something that’s working for something that’s not working,” Moody said at the post-match press conference.

Moody further said that the management believes in Kane Williamson’s ability as a batsman and trusts him to deliver in the remaining games.

“We have trusted Kane with his quality, there’s no question of his world-class quality. So, that’s why we haven’t made that move because as we have seen throughout the tournament where the batting has been functioning really well. That is Abhishek Sharma at the top of the order, Tripathi at 3, Markram 4 and Pooran 5.”

Williamson himself also admitted that he is having a hard time this IPL season which is adding extra pressure to his team as well.

“There’s some consistency to it [my struggles]. Hit four or five [balls to] fielders and then try a bit harder and end up walking off. So, you know it’s one of those things. The game just forever teaches us lessons. So, there’s a bit of learning for me there” Williamson told host broadcaster Star Sports at the post-match presentation.

SRH now have two games remaining and needs to win both of them to stay in the reckoning for the playoffs.
