Photos: Tradition Erupts With Fireworks On 4th Of July Across America

On July 4, freedom sounded a little louder than the previous Independence Day. Well, at least the fireworks did.

Bursts of flashy fireworks across the country marked something of a return to normal, a year after the coronavirus pandemic dampened most of the fourth festivities.

But on America’s 245th birthday, perhaps there was even more reason to celebrate in the name of freedom. About half of Americans have been fully vaccinated against the virus, the lockdowns have been lifted and the number of infections in the US remains relatively low

With masks largely thrown off at Sunday’s fireworks displays, the awe spread across the faces of onlookers was much more apparent.

In the nation’s capital of Washington, DC, officials welcomed crowds to the National Mall for a viewing of the annual fireworks display. Nearby, President Biden hosted 1,000 medical workers, first responders, essential workers and military personnel on the South Lawn of the White House to enjoy the same light show.

From sea to shining sea, here’s a look at some of the fireworks displays that dazzled.
