Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Tom Moody backed skipper Kane Williamson over the lack of runs in IPL 2022.

SRH will be desperate to see Williamson amongst scoring runs as the New Zealand star batter has managed 199 runs in 11 innings with just one half-century this season.

Williamson’s batting struggles continued as the SRH skipper was dismissed for a diamond duck against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.

SRH recorded their fourth straight loss after they were in the top two positions at one stage. RCB defeated Williamson and his men by 67 runs at the Wankhede Stadium to dent chances in their route to playoffs qualification.

Williamson is seen opening the innings with youngster Abhishek Sharma. The SRH captain has taken more time to settle at the crease than he would while batting at the No.3 position.

Williamson has scored 199 runs while playing 207 balls, striking at 96.14 in the tournament.

We back Kane Williamson, he’s a world-class player: Tom Moody

When Moody was asked about opening the innings with in-form Rahul Tripathi, the SRH coach explained that the Maharashtra batter is suitable for playing in their middle-order.

The Australian coach also believes Williamson will get into the groove in the remaining matches of the season.

We’ve thought about that. But we felt that Tripathi-[Aiden] Markram-[Nicholas] Pooran at 3-4-5 have been one of the strengths of our batting,” Moody said in the post-match press conference.

“To be fair to Kane, he didn’t even face a ball today, so it’ll be pretty hard to judge his form on today’s outing. We back him, he’s a world-class player, there’s no question of that. He’ll have his moment to stamp his authority on the tournament,” he added.

Barring Tripathi’s 37-ball 58 against RCB, there was no solace for SRH in their chase of 193 as their innings folded up at 125 in 19.2 overs.

SRH will play their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 14 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
